Our December meeting was a holiday social. Members in attendance brought a variety of snacks and desserts, and everyone had a good time. Thanks to all who attended and shared their dishes with the group.
NOVEMBER 10, 2007 - 1:00 PM
LOUISIANA STATE ARCHIVES BUILDING, ESSEN LANE
BATON ROUGE, LA
At our November meeting, annual elections were held. The nominating committee, led by chairperson Sergio Ramos presented the slate of candidates for the four vacant positions, the offices of Vice-President, Treasurer, and two Board of Directors. The nominees were all unopposed, and there were no nominations from the floor, so they were all thusly elected. The newly elected members of the Board are as follows.
Vice President - Rogers Serpas*
Treasurer - Sergio Ramos*
Board Member - Carol Fernandez*
Board Member - Vilora Bergeron*
Also at the meeting, President Chad LeBlanc announced the exciting news that our March speaker will be Dr. Gilbert C. Din, author of The Canary Islanders in Louisiana, a book considered by many of our members to be the 'bible' of our history. Look for more information regarding his visit in the future.
OCTOBER 13, 2007 - 1:00 PM

At our October meeting, we will have our Nominating Committee report from the chairperson, Sergio Ramos. He will report on the offices which are coming up for election next month. We will also have an overview of our nomination and election process in preparation for next month's elections.

Our speaker was Mr. John Hickey, former Vice-President of our group. He presented a program regarding the levees of our area, and how they played a part in the history of our people. His talk was interesting and informative as always.

31st Annual Lafourche Heritage Society Annual Seminar
Envie Restaurant - Thibodaux, LA
President Chad LeBlanc, Past President Catherine Prokop, and Board of Directors Member Sergio Ramos gave a presentation at the 31st annual meeting of the Lafourche Heritage Society. The event was well attended, and there was lots of positive feedback from those in attendance. Many of the visitors to the event have some Isleno roots and are eager to learn more about our history and our society.

BATON ROUGE, LA
Our speaker was Mr. Eugene LeBlanc, avid genealogist and historian who will spoke about the history of St. Gabriel, with emphasis on the church there. He gave a very interesting and informative program, outlining some of the connections between the settlers of his area, and our people.

Our speaker was Vice President Rogers Serpas who spoke about the churches of the German Coast area in the mid 1800's. Also, members were given a recap of our recent event in Houma.
MAY 26, 2007 - 1:00 P.M.TERREBONNE PARISH GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
TERREBONNE PARISH LIBRARY, MAIN BRANCH, 151 CIVIC CENTER BLVD.
HOUMA, LA
Our society was the guest speakers for the Terrebonne Parish Genealogical Society's May meeting. President Chad LeBlanc was introduced by TPGS's Vice-President Ed Hicks, and in turn introduced members of our society who were present, Vice-President Rogers Serpas, Past President Catherine Prokop, Board Members Alisa Janney and Sergio Ramos, and members Essie Cavalier, Angela Macomber, and Kayla Vaughn. President LeBlanc gave a PowerPoint presentation on the Canary Islanders, followed by Past President Prokop who spoke about the various settlements and land records. Lastly, Board Member Sergio Ramos gave a brief PowerPoint presentation on the Canary Islands today. All in attendance were very receptive of our presentation and we got a great deal of positive feedback.

BATON ROUGE, LA
For our May meeting, Mr. Sergio Ramos, board member and Canarian citizen, gave us a great presentation on the islands. He covered a vast array of topics concerning the islands, including culture, economics, politics, and even problems that they currently face. President Chad LeBlanc briefly gave an overview of a program called Google Earth, which allows users to view satellite and aerial photographs of the entire world. We then went on a virtual tour of several islands using the program.
APRIL 14, 2007
LOUISIANA STATE ARCHIVES BUILDING, ESSEN LANE
BATON ROUGE, LA
Our speaker was Mr. Bill Stafford, who currently works for the State Archives, directly under State Archivist Dr. Florent Hardy, as the Director of Reference Services. He spoke about what types of records the archives accepts, what format they should be in, and how determination is made as to what is accepted and not accepted. He also answered many questions from the group concerning what to do in certain situations where records may be incomplete or questionable. Very interesting information.
MARCH 24-25, 2007ST. BERNARD PARISH GOVERNMENTAL BUILDING
8201 W. JUDGE PEREZ BLVD., CHALMETTE, LA
The 2007 Fiesta was well attended, and everyone had a great time. As usual, there was excellent food, live entertainment, and interesting attractions to see. Thanks to our members who attended and helped to support our friends in St. Bernard.

Our speaker was Ms. Judy Smith, with the state library. She updated us on the latest research materials in her section of the library, and discussed the best ways to utilize these resources for doing your own historical and genealogical research. She introduced us to many great new programs that the library has in place for research, utilizing the internet and printed materials.
FEBRUARY 10, 2007 - 1:00 PM
LOUISIANA STATE ARCHIVES BUILDING, ESSEN LANE
BATON ROUGE, LA
Mrs. Donna Falcon Lynch of Fox Chapel, PA attended our meeting, and led what became a reunion of the Falcon family. There was a great turnout by a number of Falcon descendants, and it was a great opportunity for them to connect. Pictures and genealogy charts were on display, and everyone got an opportunity to see some of the work that our group has done over the years. Our speaker was Mr. William de Marigny Hyland, historian of St. Bernard Parish and director of the Isleno Museum Complex. Mr. Hyland spoke about our history and some news concerning the upcoming annual Fiesta.

JANUARY 13, 2007 - 1:00 PM

Our speaker was Mrs. Charlotte Hudson Ewing, an avid genealogist, who spoke about her first novel, Red Land, which has received many rave reviews. Her talk was very interesting and informative, as she detailed how she went about incorporating her genealogical data into a novel.
