A message from our President, Chad J. LeBlanc.... Dear Members, Hopefully all of you are faring well in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav. People throughout our area have pulled together to help one another and in some sense, this has brought out the best in all of us. I could not help but think of our ancestors and how they must have dealt with such events. Without the benefit of news to warn and prepare them for a coming storm, they were likely caught off guard and forced to endure as best as they could. Even though we are suffering from damages and loss of power, at least we have the modern technologies of radio and generators to help us cope. Due to the widespread and numerous disruptions caused by Gustav, and the impending approach of Hurricane Ike, we have cancelled our September meeting. I will update you all again before our October meeting with information on its agenda. Please keep yourselves safe and informed during this difficult time, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Remember that our people are an enduring and resilient people who have persevered and thrived for many years here in South Louisiana, and will continue to do so for many more years to come. God Bless,
Chad J. LeBlanc, President Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana
